In-Depth Book Review: Meet Cute

Hi, bookworms!

I realize it’s been a hot minute since I’ve written a post on here! But rest assured, I’ve still been a busy little reader, squeezing in my reading time on breaks at work and on my daily commute.

We’re in the month of February now, which has basically been deemed the month of romance, thanks to Valentine’s Day. Now, I’m not always the biggest fan of romance novels, but for Valentine’s Day, I thought, what the heck, let’s read myself a cute little love story. And then I remembered a book I’d heard about that was being published in 2018 called Meet Cute, which has not one love story but fourteen stories of how two people met. And you know what they say: the rest is history…

January Wrap-Up

January Wrap-Up

Hello bookworms!

So here we are—the first monthly wrap-up of 2018! I hope you’re all settling into the new year nicely. I know I am. One of my biggest bookish resolutions of 2018 was to let go of held expectations and Books I Must Read Right Now and to instead read purely for pleasure. So far I’m holding to that, as this was overall a really nice, laid back reading month, with little expectations or deadlines (aside from a few books I had set myself to read prior to my resolution.)

So, let’s get into the books I read this month!

Book Review: Foolish Hearts

I received a copy of this book in the December 2017 Owlcrate.

Hello, bookworms!

If you remember back in December, I made a post where I showed off the contents of my first ever Owlcrate box! And the book in that month’s box was Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills. Well, I’ve since read Foolish Hearts and am ready to share my thoughts on it!

I’m super thankful to Owlcrate for including such a cute, fun contemporary in their box, as that was just the thing I wanted to read at that time. I was especially intrigued to read Foolish Hearts, as it not only features a queer relationship, but also incorporates different types of relationships, from romantic relationships to deep platonic friendships to family relationships and more.

So, enough talking. Let’s get into it!

Book Review: The Hazel Wood

I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway

Ever since stumbling upon this one day on Goodreads and reading its synopsis, this has been a highly anticipated book of mine for a long time, and I was SO excited to read it. I love the stories of fairy tales and folklores, and how magical, enchanting, and oftentimes dark they can be. I thought this book, then, would have these same elements of a dark and twisting, Brothers Grimm-esque fairy tale. And I’m so gutted that I actually didn’t end up liking this book as much as I’d hoped and that it turned out to be a different kind of story than I anticipated going in.

In the first few days of the new year is when our new year’s resolutions are still fresh in our minds, when we start making lists and plans of what all we want to accomplish in the year.
